Opportunities and challenges in US mathematics education and teacher professional development.
In this talk, Prof. Star begins by providing an overview of the landscape of US K-12 mathematics education and mathematics teacher education. Star then discusses three contemporary mathematics education policy and practice issues that are being actively debated in the US right now, relating to: (1) the identification and measurement of key learning outcomes in mathematics, (2) optimal modes of instruction to support students’ learning of mathematics, and (3) differentiation of instruction to meet the needs of all students.
