In this talk, Prof. Jon R. Star provides an overview of the landscape of the educational system in the US organized in K-12 (kindergarten to grade 12). Jon Star then discusses three contemporary education policy and practice issues that are being actively debated in the US right now: (1) assessing teacher effectiveness; (2) balancing theoretical and practical aspects of teacher training; (3) differentiation of instruction to meet the needs of all students.
Prof. Jon R. Star is a Professor of Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He is an educational psychologist and mathematics educator who studies the teaching and learning of mathematics.
